6 Winter Wonderland Decorations That Will Transform Your Home
Table of Contents Show
For many, the first snow of the year marks the beginning of winter. But if you’re anything like me, the arrival of the coveted winter wonderland decorations and the slight temperature change are the true indicators of the winter season. And since it hardly ever snows here (huge bummer!), we can begin to transform our homes as early as we please.
Now, I’m not saying you shouldn’t begin to dress your home from top to bottom in holiday decorations at the beginning of October (unless that’s your thing) because there isn’t a right time to start pulling out all the stops. The same goes for your choice of décor. You want to choose items that match your personality and display what the season represents to you.
Get creative, think outside the box, and turn your home into the lavish, warm, and cozy winter wonderland you’ve been dreaming of. I certainly have…and my family has never been more in awe!
Whether you’re looking to up your tablescape game, put together the picturesque fireplace display, or create an outdoor “winter” vibe in your backyard, plenty of gorgeous and simple elements can help master the perfect look and feel!
Simple DIY Winter Wonderland Décor
Do you want to put your own stamp on your winter decorations this year? Are you tired of looking at the traditional store-bought items that everybody, and I mean everybody, has hanging inside their houses? If so, you’re in luck!
Here are a few inexpensive items that are fun and easy to make. Not to mention, they look stunning when complete…I can personally attest to some of these myself.
Wrapped Artwork
I’m sure you have a few pieces of artwork up on the walls that you absolutely adore. If you want to add some extra pizazz to them this holiday season, try wrapping them with a large, beautiful bow. This creates the illusion of a newly wrapped gift and serves as a lovely focal point for everyone to admire.
I suggest using deep, rich colors to contrast light-colored artwork or white and ivory against darker hues. This is a simple and foolproof way to incorporate some decorative winter vibes throughout your home.

Elegant Wreaths
Wreaths are a lovely way to bring some natural elements indoors. They’re extremely easy to make and require very little prep work (the ideal solution if you find yourself in a bind). In fact, they’re the perfect arts and crafts projects for you and the kids this holiday season!
Purchase a wire wreath and gather some real or faux evergreen branches—cedar, cypress, and juniper will work wonders. Wrap individual branches along the wire wreath and securely fasten them with floral wire. Continue overlapping the stands until your wreath is dense and full of texture.
If you’re feeling adventurous, add some dried fruit, colorful bows, or tinsel throughout the wreath. This will take your winter wonderland decorations to the next level and showcase your unique artistic style.

Calming Candles
Regarding the ultimate DIY winter décor, candles are at the top. From their elegant aesthetic to their intoxicating aroma, candles can transform even the blandest room into a holiday haven. And what’s even better is that they’re incredibly easy to make. With just a few ingredients, you can bring new light (no pun intended) to your home this season.
Grab some glass jars, wax, wicks, and fragrance, and you’re off to the races! Feel free to use different-shaped jars to create depth and dimension if you plan on placing multiple candles in the same area. Throw in some grain or liquid dye to create an assortment of colors that match your overall design.
Tasteful Tablescapes
With some simple winter table décor, you can turn your everyday, run-of-the-mill dining room or kitchen table into a beautiful piece of art. If you’re aiming for a more traditional look, I recommend sticking to a neutral color palette with occasional pops of darker colors like green and gold.
Using a beige tablecloth, run garland down the center of the table mixed with some tall candles and glass jars or decorative winter pieces. Throw in gold or metallic-colored placemats for a layered effect, and add some napkin rings to bring the look together. Be careful about getting carried away….you still need space at the table to eat!
Finely Dressed Fireplaces
Fireplaces are fantastic during the winter months. Who doesn’t love to snuggle up next to the fireplace and read their favorite book while taking in the warmth of the flames? From nicely cut and organized logs to winter mantel decorations, turn this large feature into something calm and cozy. Picture frames with your favorite family photos, colorful ornaments, snowflakes, and garland can create the blissful ambiance you need to bring the family together.
Open Outdoor Oasis
To really get into the holiday spirit this winter, consider bringing those winter wonderland decorations outside. If you’ve got outdoor entertainment space, why not use it? My family and I sure do! No matter the time of year, we’re always out there enjoying ourselves and making lasting memories.
To add some visual appeal, I built a slat wall along one edge of the living space that’s perfect for any season. Add some garland across the top, and we’ve got ourselves our own little taste of winter! Our above-ground fire pit definitely helps bring in those seasonal vibes. And my son, Zaki, couldn’t possibly enjoy it any more than he already does!
