How to Patch a Drywall Hole Like a Pro

Hey guys! Today’s post is sponsored by 3M – a brand I use and trust. In the past I’ve shared how to create a gallery wall using the 3M CLAW Drywall Picture Hangers and today I’m going to show you how to fix a hole in the wall with 3M’s High Strength Wall Repair kits.

When Projects Require Wall Repair

Sometimes, when you haven’t planned your project all the way through or even after tons of careful planning, things can go wrong. Mistakes are bound to happen and the important thing is to know how to fix them and move forward with the project. I made one such mistake in my recent media room makeover and was left with a gaping 2.25″ hole in the wall. Okay so it wasn’t really a mistake, it was more me changing my mind about putting a wall sconce in the spot I made a hole in.

How to Use 3M’s Wall Repair Products to Fix Small Holes in Your Drywall

One really cool wall repair product 3M makes is the High Strength Small Hole Repair Kit. This kit includes everything you need to fix a hole up to 3 inches wide. Inside the kit is a 3-inch putty knife, primer enhanced spackling compound, 4-inch drywall repair screen and a sanding pad. It’s pretty much a one-stop shop for small-scale wall repair.

The first thing you need to do is remove debris from the hole and clean it up. This is done so the adhesive patch can stick properly onto it. Once clean, peel the backing off the patch and press firmly onto the hole. Next, open up the spackling compound and mix well before applying it onto the patch with the provided putty knife. Make sure to cover all the patch and spread the spackle outside the patch as well to blend it with the rest of the wall. Feather the product out at the ends for a seamless patch. Your High Strength Small Hole Repair Kit also comes with a sanding pad. When your spackle is dry, lightly sand it to remove ridges and to smooth it out. Only light sanding is required so you don’t accidentally expose the patch.

That is it, you guys! Your patch is ready to be painted and it literally took me 10 minutes to repair this hole (not including dry time before painting).

Plaster and Repair Walls with Confidence

This was my first time repairing a hole in drywall and it was a breeze! The 3M High Strength Small Hole Repair Kit makes it fool-proof to fix up a wall. The best part about using this product was how little time it took from start to finish and everything I needed was included in the kit. They also make a bunch of different wall repair products for different purposes. There’s a High Strength Large Hole Repair Kit for holes up to 5″ and an All-in-One Applicator Tool tool for cracks, small holes and knicks. So whatever the case, 3M products have you covered.
