DIY Boho Modern Indoor Swing – ORC Week 5 & 6

Learn how to make a boho modern DIY indoor swing for you kid’s playroom! No cutting required!

Hey guys! We are in the home stretch of the One Room Challenge and I cannot wait to share more of the playroom with you all!

Last week I hung Zaki’s indoor swing and it was one of the easiest DIY projects I have done so far – definitely something for all levels of DIY skills to try out. Do I even need to convince you on making a swing for your kids? I mean, I’m on it myself half the time 😉

Okay so the materials list is very simple, I ended up using a leftover 2″x10″ board that I had from the shelves. If you buy the board from Lowes they will cut it for you at the length you need (I make mine 20″ long) The next thing you need is rope – you could use nylon or jute, I went for a jute rope because the texture was perfect! Last but not least you need Swing screws to attach it to the ceiling.

Materials & Tools

Wood Board 2x10x8′ cut to size of your preference (mine was 20″)

Jute Rope (approx 50′)

Swing Hanging Kit

7/8″ Drill Bit

Power Drill

Wood Stain

Polycrylic

How to

  1. Give the wood for the swing a good sanding with a 220 grit sandpaper and stain it with a color of your choice. Once dry, seal it with Polycrylic and wait to dry for about 4-6 hours.
  2. Mark the position of the holes on each corner one inch from each side and drill holes at the marked spots. Sand them to remove splinters.
  3. Using a stud finder locate ceiling joists where you want to hang the swing. Ceiling joists are like wall studs for the ceiling. Mark the positions of where your hanging hooks will go depending on the distance between the holes in the swing (mine were 18″ apart)
  4. Screw the hanging hooks into ceiling and loop the jute rope through each hook
  5. Insert the rope into the holes and tie a simple knot at the bottom (no fancy knot needed according to my research)
  6. Trim off excess and enjoy countless hours of fun!

Check back next week for the room reveal and don’t forget to see what other participants are up to!
