Tropical Safari Kids Room Makeover
I am so excited to be sharing with you my son’s tropical safari kids’ room makeover, which is perfectly gender-neutral and super chic! The real showstopper is the wallpaper on the ceiling, which is where the room design started, along with the beadboard wall treatment.
Let’s dive right into the room and reveal pictures!

I wanted to take the builder-grade room to something special, and the first thing that came to mind was a simple but modern wall treatment. I decided to go with beadboard all around the room and painted it a cool taupe-beige color that didn’t overshadow the tropical wallpaper on the ceiling and better enhanced it.
If you’re coming from my Instagram, you know I went through about ten different samples of paint before deciding on this one! (Sources below) The upper half of the wall got a fresh coat of paint in a soft white Alabaster.

The real showstopper in this room has to be the large leaf tropical wallpaper on the ceiling by Milton and King.

I fell in love with the bold pattern and color and immediately knew this was the one! To add extra details to the ceiling, I added a gorgeous Art Deco style ceiling medallion by Ekena Millworks and a stunning black and gold chandelier by Jonathan Y lighting.
We already had the bed from before and got this cute nightstand to match, along with all-in-one bedding from Beddy’s Bed. My friends were very skeptical when I showed them the comforter that I had purchased to go with the bohemian bedding, but I looove how the pattern mixes with the ceiling design and the rest of the colors in the room!
I’m loving the mix of patterns and colors in this room!
One final touch I added to the room was the faux house around the tiny attic door, which was the easiest DIY ever! Masking tape, some leftover paint, and a spare hour in the day were all I needed to turn that tiny door into a reading nook for my son. I added the rustic bookshelves to make them look like windows to the house as well as an easy spot for books.
How to Bring Your Safari Kids’ Room to Life

You have seen how I created ours, so now let’s talk about how you can bring your own safari kids room to life at home.
Make It Work for a Nursery or a Big Kid Room
A safari theme is one of my favorite ways to create a space that truly grows with your child. It works beautifully as nursery decor when they are tiny and transitions perfectly into a fun, adventurous child’s room as they get older.
Eesa would have absolutely loved this style as a toddler, though he definitely preferred our bed at night instead of his own room. This theme is a great way to design a gender-neutral nursery or a playful big kid space that feels full of personality.
Add Animal Prints and Playful Patterns
One of the easiest ways to make the safari theme shine is to add animal prints or animal print patterns.
You can use these on throw pillows, crib bedding, or even a coordinating rug to tie the whole look together. It feels playful and adventurous without going over the top and is the perfect way to show off your little explorer’s personality.
If you are shopping for nursery decor, these are popular choices that make a big impact.
Create a Cozy Reading or Play Tent Corner

Rug | Stool | Planter | Book Shelves
A play tent or reading nook in the corner is such a fun addition to a safari room. Zaki would have turned it into his own private library, while Eesa would have transformed it into a rocket ship headed for outer space.
A play tent is a great way to encourage imagination and quiet time, and it makes the room feel extra special. Pair it with a few soft pillows or a plush animal print blanket, and it quickly becomes the best spot in the room.
Choose Decor That Grows with Them

When picking pieces for your safari room, look for items that are versatile and can last through all stages.
Think fun wall art, sturdy furniture, and playful bedding that can handle years of adventures. These decor choices not only work in a child’s room but can also be used in a nursery and carried forward as your child grows.
