DIY Large Floral Arrangements for Spring Decor
Table of Contents Show
Spring is the perfect time to refresh your home décor with vibrant colors and custom arrangements. Creating large floral arrangements with a bright color palette is a great way to take your spring decor to the next level. If you’re like me and can’t keep real flower species alive, I’m going to show you the easiest way to create a focal point and large arrangement with artificial flowers.
While spring flowers might be synonymous with white hydrangeas in a glass vase, can I please introduce you to one of my favorite flowering trees? Meet the bougainvillea tree.
This thorny, ornamental vine has paper like flowers that grow in clusters. And the colors. My goodness, they grow in a variety of vibrant colors like lush pinks and reds, oranges and even yellow! One thing I’m thankful to the British for is that they brought this beautiful tree to India, and hence, to Pakistan as well, where I grew up. You might have seen this sprawling tree in pictures from Greece but the truth is, it’s native to a lot of countries, especially around the Middle East.
Living in Houston, I thought I would be able to grow this tree as well, owing to the similar climate to Karachi, but I failed miserably. I just don’t have a green thumb and I’m not trying again! So this year, for Spring home decor, I wanted to create a beautiful display for my living room that reminded me of home, where the Bougainvillea tree grew wild. Without harming any real trees, might I add! Artificial flower arrangements are the way to go if you’re creating an indoor display that you want to last for a long time.
In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to create a stunning large floral arrangement using a faux bougainvillea tree, faux florals, and a flexible vine. Not only does this project add the perfect addition for spring to my home but also bring back memories of my grandmother’s house, particularly the giant bougainvillea tree that adorned her home. Its vibrant pink and red flowers would spill over the walls, creating a beautiful canopy. Even though I’m using it as spring decor here, you could create the same display for a Mykonos themed baby shower or bridal shower or just any special events in general.
Spring Ramadan Decor
As Ramadan (the holy month of fasting for muslims) coincides with spring this year, I decided to use spring decor as a Ramadan display to get my kids excited about the month. The vibrant colors of the large faux arrangement perfectly symbolize the renewal and spiritual growth that Ramadan brings. It’s a reminder of the beauty of my childhood home. Decorating for this holy month is also a great way to pass on traditions to the next generation.
I repurposed old decorations I had from around the house to bring the display to life. I brought in a large glass lantern in an oil rubbed bronze finish (any finish would work), a few brass candle stands in a variety of heights, and added some mini lanterns as well. I also had a Ramadan Mubarak sign that I got from Amazon last year which will probably be an annual decor staple! I added that under my fireplace along with some candles and oh my goodness, it looks amazing! You should have seen my older son Zaki’s face when he walked into the living room – he was ecstatic!
Materials Needed for Large Faux Floral Arrangement
- Faux bougainvillea tree
- Bougainvillea Faux Florals (2 packs)
- Flexible vine
- Basket or large planter
- Floral wire or regular picture hanging wire
- Mini command hooks
How To Create Bougainvillea Display
Prepare the Faux Bougainvillea Tree
Place the fake bougainvillea tree in a basket or planter next to your wall. You can make this arrangement on any wall you like. I chose my fireplace/tv wall because that is a focal point in our living room. Make sure the basket is stable and secure. Spruce up the branches and open up the flowers as they might have wrinkled up in packaging.
Attach the Flexible Vine
Use floral wire to attach the flexible vine to the faux tree. Wrap the wire around the vine and the branches of the tree to secure it in place.
Secure the Stems to the Wall
Use mini command hooks to secure the floral stems to the wall.
Arrange the stems in a cascading pattern, starting from the top of the tree and working your higher.
Adjust and Arrange
Once all the stems and vine are securely in place, step back and adjust the arrangement as needed. You can bend the stems and vine to create a more natural and flowing look.

FAQs
Can I use another flower species for this project?
You can use any flower species you like! This tree is special to me which is why I used it but any flowering tree would work. Make sure it is a climbing variety so the display looks natural and not forced. You could use climbing roses or crepe myrtles or any flowering tree with vines.
Can I turn this into a floral centerpiece?
I’m pretty sure you could turn this large faux arrangement into a centerpiece for your dining room, for example if you just use the stems and vine without the tree. I would use floral foam brick to keep the stems in place as well as chicken wire to give it more support.
Can I use this faux bougainvillea tree outdoors?
Yes! You can use this bougainvillea tree outdoors as long as it’s not in direct sunlight the whole day. Otherwise the color might fade in a few years. Silk flower arrangements are best kept indoors, however, I’ve had a bunch of faux trees outside in my patio and they’re doing wonderfully.
