Use a stud finder to locate and mark wall studs

Remove baseboards using a multi-tool

Construct two side frames from 2x4 studs – 96” tall, 8” deep

Assemble the side frames flat on the floor using 2.5" screws

Lift and secure side frames into studs on the existing wall

Use brad nails temporarily to keep framing straight while attaching

Build the front face of the frame, leaving an opening for the electric fireplace insert

Standard spacing is 16” between studs, and fireplace opening is centered

Use a rafter square to make accurate cuts and ensure square joints

Attach front face to the side frames using 3” or 4” screws

For added support, install horizontal blocking above the fireplace cutout for TV mount

(Optional) Build a floating hearth or bench by framing a rectangular box (use full-length studs for ease)

Cover bench with ¼” plywood and attach using construction adhesive and screws

Use ½” drywall sheets to cover the entire front and sides of the frame

Measure and mark cuts using a drywall T-square

Score with a utility knife and snap to cut

Secure drywall with coarse thread screws into the framing

Be sure to drywall the top of the fireplace wall if visible from above

Mix joint compound with a little water for smooth consistency

Apply mud to all seams using a 4” taping knife

Add drywall tape over each seam and smooth out air bubbles

Use metal corner bead for clean, crisp corners – secure with screws

Apply a second wider coat of compound over seams for a seamless look

Let dry for 24 hours and sand smooth using 220 grit sanding sponge

For a professional finish, skim coat the entire wall with thinned compound

Sand again and wipe clean

Prime with two coats before painting or limewashing

Paint in your desired color or apply limewash (e.g. Romabio Avorio White for a soft, rustic look)
