Spring Decor – DIY Distressed Terracotta Pots

DIY distressed rustic terracotta planters for spring entryway decor

Hi Guys! Today I’m doing a fun Blog Hop with some friends of mine and we’re sharing Spring Decor ideas for your Entryway! All of us have done a simple DIY as well as thrifty Spring decor ideas that won’t break the bank.

I did a fall tablescape last year along with a holiday winter wonderland tablescape last December – be sure to check those out as well for more seasonal decor inspo!

When I think of Spring, I think of growing, potting, fresh herbs and plants, and that’s what I wanted to incorporate in my decor this year. Organic material, bringing the outdoors in and embracing the season of growing! What better to way celebrate Spring than to include natural planters in your home decor, right? With that basic idea in mind, I got a few things from the local grocery store to get this entryway decor started.

I purchased a few cheap terracotta planters that were all about a few dollars each and decided to give them a quick distressed makeover. If you’re here for the tutorial it’s a little further down! Next, I picked up some dried lavender sold in the floral section (baby’s breath or eucalyptus leaves would work great too!) and brought it home to style my entryway table with. I already had most of the items around the house and I just switched out the darker fall/winter colors with lighter softer tones for my Spring decor.

Now for the distressed terracotta pot tutorial!

Here’s what you need:

  • a few terracotta planters
  • white acrylic paint
  • dark acrylic paint (grey, black, dark green)
  • rag

How to:

Dilute the white paint with some water until you get a watery consistency. Use the rag to apply the watered down paint to the planter and keep building layers to get the desired look. Repeat in smaller sections with the darker paint color and apply sporadically. You can use a dry brush to apply the paint to create different brush strokes and marks on the planter. Repeat process until you’re happy with how your planter looks!

I’m going to leave you with some pretty pinnable pictures and before you head out, definitely check out my friends who are doing this fun blog hop with me!
